PROBLEM STATEMENT

UnWind is a design project inspired by my concerns. Sometimes, we face problems that not everyone can relate to. UnWind creates a safe space for people dealing with anxiety, stress, and life challenges to share their struggles. It helps individuals with similar issues connect, discuss, and find solutions based on their shared experiences.

PROJECT GOALS

01 - Create a Safe Space.
Build an anonymous platform where users can share their thoughts and struggles without fear of judgment.

02 - Connect People with Similar Struggles.

Help users find others who share the same experiences, allowing them to discuss and support each other.

03 - Promote Mental Health Awareness.

Share helpful articles and tips to educate and empower users in understanding their mental health better.

Literature Study Findings

The risk of having a mental disorder by the age of 75 is about one in two. It often starts early, with the highest risk around age 15. For men, the median age is 19, and for women, it’s 20.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting over 264 million people globally.

Despite this progress, many people who need help for a mental health issue don’t seek it. many people are afraid of being stigmatized if they admit they need help.

Sometimes, getting help feels impossible, especially when you’re struggling. Even if someone with depression believes change is possible, simple things like finding a therapist or setting an appointment can feel unbearable.

User Research

After I studied the literature, I conducted user research by asking questions about this issue. I did it anonymously because I believe people with anxiety or depression often don’t want to admit they’re experiencing it. I made an online survey about this, and here’s the outcome:

Many people deal with their problems in their own way. There’s so much diversity in how individuals approach and handle their challenges.

40% of respondents agree that if someone has the same problem as them, they will feel helped.

57% of respondents agree that sharing their problem anonymously with the goal of finding a solution feels safe, while the rest are still in doubt.

90% of respondents have never sought help from professionals.

100% of respondents agree that having an app that provides advice or solutions based on similar problems others are facing would be helpful.

02 - Define

User Persona

I make user persona to represents the user who will use my app, so I can understand their needs, goals, and problems better, and then make a solution that really make an impact.

Empathy Map

Based on the User Persona, I created an Empathy Map to better understand and acknowledge what the users feel, think, say, and do. This helps me identify what matters most to them and find ways to design solutions that truly align with their needs.

03 - Develop

User Flow

I came up with the idea of a Thread-Based app because users can discuss their problems, and other users can contribute through the comment section. Each thread can be categorized to make sure users can find similar categories easily. And because it is anonymous, I added a little twist by including a Daily Mood Meter to be used as a profile picture. I made a User Flow to ensure the flow is clear and concise.

Wireframe

After making the flow of the app, I started to create the wireframe based on the User Flow, focusing on organizing the layout and visual structure.

Homepage

After the users sign up, they will be directed to the homepage, where they can see other people’s threads based on the category they chose earlier. The navigation bar has several pages, arranged from left to right: Homepage, Mood Meter, Thread Search, New Thread, Articles, and Profile.

Mood Meter & New Thread

Mood Meter is where you can set your daily mood, and it updates your profile picture based on the mood you set. On this page, there’s a mood history section where you can view your mood history and statistics. There’s also a practice section that users can follow to help ease their problems. When you click the + button on the nav bar, a modal pops up where you can post a new thread by adding the title, content, and categories.

Articles

In the Articles page, users can find articles that help based on the categories they’re interested in. Every article is designed to provide insights or solutions for their struggles. Users can save the articles they find helpful and read them anytime they want for future reference.

Profile

In the Profile page, users can see all of their threads, the threads they’ve saved, and the articles they’ve saved. This page also includes app settings, where users can adjust their preferences to make the app fit their needs better.

Conclusion

UnWind is an app that helps people with their struggles and hopes to connect them with others who share similar experiences to find solutions. This app is aimed at those who may have limitations, such as financial struggles, or those who don’t know where to seek help. With this app, we hope to assist many people facing issues and help them find solutions they may not have known about.

Suggestion

There are still many aspects of this app that can be developed, starting from the research phase. Since many people are closed off about their life struggles, I conducted it anonymously with the hope that they would feel safe. It’s also recommended to involve experts in the psychological field, so the app can be developed more effectively.
